
Obscure Animals
Most of us don’t grasp the variety of species that inhabit the Earth today, and some even get surprised as they find out there are some they haven’t heard of before. But seriously now – out of 1,367,555 identified non-insect animal species that live on Earth today, how do you expect to know every single one of them? To put it into perspective, this number represents only 1% of all animal species that have ever lived! Not to mention the depths of our Oceans, where there’s probably even more waiting to be discovered.Scientists themselves keep observing new species every year and admit that modern science is not familiar with all of the strange animals existing today. This leaves room to such unique and even bizarre discoveries collected in this post! Inspired by, we put together a selection of such unheard-of creatures and weird animals as a Dumbo Octopus, Pink Fairy Armadillo, Star-Nosed Mole, and Aye-Aye.The last one, Aye-Aye (not to be confused with aye aye, captain), deserves a paragraph of his own, not only because it’s a weird animal, but also of its unique foraging method, called percussive foraging.

Severed ties so cal. The first few thousand copies printed of the album retained the samples: 'I Heart Roberts' contains one from the film, 'The Blair Snitch Project' had a sample from in its intro, and 'Stairway to Hell' contains sound samples from Hot Rod. Three tracks contained samples from feature films, however due to copyright restrictions the label was forced to remove them.
That means that the Aye-Aye taps on wood to locate grubs by the sound of a hollow tree trunk, then gnaws the wood to make a hole from which then, using his elongated middle finger, he extracts out the grub and eats it. The other most known animal to forage this way is a woodpecker. (iStock)If an anteater and an armadillo had a baby, it might look something like the pangolin, an odd-looking mammal found throughout parts of Asia and Africa. The pangolin has a long, specially adapted tongue for eating ants and termites and wears a protective keratin shell — it is the only mammal known to have this adaptation. Sadly, its unique characteristics also make it the most trafficked mammal in the world, as it is highly sought-after for its meat and armor. The pangolin is currently listed as a threatened species. Salt and sanctuary 2. There are many different species of glass frogs, but this little guy is a new discovery — the first in Costa Rica since 1973. While its bright green coloring might grab your attention, the coolest part about this frog is that it is see-through.
That’s right — the underside is translucent, providing a stunning view of the amphibian’s internal organs. If you want to see one, you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled — these tiny jumpers are less than an inch long. Axolotl, aka Mexican walking fish.
